Our capabilities

Our dedicated global health team, as well as BMJ’s extensive network of experts, can lead or support a wide range of international development programmes in healthcare and workforce development.

Health system strengthening

A health system’s biggest asset is the knowledge of its medical workforce. We build capacity and quality through supporting medical professionals to practice evidence-based medicine.

Our Clinical Decision Support Training Initiative has trained over 17,500 frontline healthcare professionals in pandemic preparedness, biosecurity and managing infectious diseases.

BMJ’s rapid coronavirus response was endorsed as a key source of information by Google Scholar, World Health Organisation (WHO), and the Biosurveillance Network of the Silk Road (BNSR).

Our primary care programming in LMICs, both online and offline, trains and empowers primary care clinicians to deliver evidence-based medicine. In Ukraine, where we partnered with World Bank to train 4,000 primary care professionals, 95% of clinicians said that BMJ resources helped them improve patient care.

Digital Health

In the time-pressured environment of modern day medicine, fast and accurate diagnosis and decision making is vital.

Our clinical decision support and training tools provide clinicians with real-time access to the latest medical evidence.

Resources are localised, translated, and made accessible anytime, so clinicians can diagnose, treat, or manage acute and chronic conditions easily, safely, and effectively.

Workforce development and education

A well-trained and appropriately skilled medical workforce is a vital component of healthcare provision.

We have worked with the Ministries of Health in three countries to strengthen their national CME/CPD systems. Our technical expertise enables governments to build workable and rigorous accreditation systems.

We work with healthcare professionals worldwide to reduce the time spent preparing for exams, appraisal and revalidation.

Thought Leadership

We have unrivalled expertise in global health evidence and using it to inform international programmes in low and middle income countries.

We are a trusted provider of medical information and scientific knowledge. We quickly, effectively and directly deliver this into the hands of healthcare professionals in innovative formats that integrate seamlessly into the clinical workflow.

Our dedicated open access journal, BMJ Global Health is due to receive its first impact factor in mid-2020 and our BMJ Collections have been delivered in partnership with organisations including WHO, Harvard Global Health Institute, and The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH).

Monitoring and Evaluation

BMJ is a values led organisation and we are committed to transparency and evidence-based decisions.

Our strict adherence to the principles of editorial independence enables us to critically assess global health programmes and convene global experts from over 70 countries to drive positive change, both in our own live projects and as a third party.
